Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions?

Is it covered by health insurance? +
Coverage depends on the device, your insurance plan, and your personal situation. Your Certified Prosthetist can help you understand what may be covered and guide you through the funding process.
How long does the fitting process take? +
The fitting process (from initial consultation to receiving your prosthesis) often takes about 2 to 4 months, depending on your needs and the type of device you choose.
Can I try the prosthesis before committing? +
Yes, some devices can be tried before you make a decision, and those trials are free. Your Össur specialist can explain which options are available. Some custom devices, such as silicone prostheses, are made just for you and cannot be tried ahead of time.
Are the prostheses covered by a warranty? +
Yes. Össur offers standard warranties on all devices (1 year for LivingSkin® silicone prostheses, 2 years for mechanical/body-driven devices, and 2 years for bionic devices). Your Certified Prosthetist can explain what warranty comes with your device and whether extra coverage is available. Ask about plans that offer up to 5 years of protection.
Do I have to choose between a functional prosthesis and passive functional prosthesis? +
Not always. A functional prosthesis and a passive functional prosthesis can support different goals, and some people use both. Your Certified Prosthetist can help you decide what best fits your needs and daily life.
